You've studied for weeks. Now it's time to execute on exam day. Here's exactly what to expect when you take the Connecticut real estate exam at a PSI testing center.

Scheduling Your Exam

The Connecticut real estate exam is administered by PSI Exams Online. To schedule:

  1. Go to PSI's website (psiexams.com)
  2. Create an account or log in
  3. Search for "Connecticut Real Estate Salesperson"
  4. Select a testing center and appointment time
  5. Pay the exam fee (approximately $85 — verify current pricing on PSI's site)

Connecticut has PSI testing centers in multiple locations including Hartford, Hamden, Shelton, and others. Choose the center closest to you.

What to Bring

Required: - Two forms of valid, government-issued ID (e.g., driver's license + passport, or driver's license + credit card with signature) - Your ID must match the name on your PSI registration exactly

Not allowed in the testing room: - Cell phones or smart watches - Notes, books, or study materials - Food or drinks - Bags or purses (lockers are provided)

PSI will provide scratch paper and a pencil for calculations.

Day-of Logistics

  • Arrive 30 minutes early. Late arrivals may not be admitted.
  • Check in with PSI staff. You'll be photographed and sign in.
  • Receive scratch paper. Write your key math formulas immediately when the exam begins.
  • Complete biometric verification (palm scan or fingerprint at most PSI centers).

The Exam Format

  • 120 questions total: 80 national + 40 state
  • 3.5 hours: Manage your time — that's about 1 minute and 45 seconds per question
  • Computer-based: Click to select your answer; you can flag questions to review later
  • No penalty for guessing — always answer every question, even if you're unsure

Time Management Strategy

  • Budget roughly 1.5 hours for the national section (80 questions)
  • Budget roughly 45 minutes for the state section (40 questions)
  • Use the remaining time to review flagged questions
  • Don't spend more than 2 minutes on any single question — flag it and move on

Handling Difficult Questions

When you're unsure: 1. Eliminate obviously wrong answers first 2. Look for qualifier words: "always," "never," "must," "may" — these often signal the correct answer 3. If two answers seem correct, choose the more conservative/legal one 4. Trust your preparation — your first instinct is usually right

After the Exam

PSI delivers results immediately on-screen at most testing centers. You'll see "Pass" or "Fail" along with a score report showing performance by category.

  • If you pass: Your score report serves as proof of passing. Submit your license application to CREC.
  • If you fail: The score report shows which sections need improvement. You can retake the failed section(s). Connecticut allows unlimited retakes, but there is a waiting period between attempts.

The Night Before

  • Do a light review of Connecticut-specific rules (CREC, trust account timing, fair housing additions)
  • Get 7–8 hours of sleep
  • Lay out your IDs and know your testing center location
  • Eat a solid breakfast on exam day
