New Jersey Real Estate Exam Day Tips
You have put in the study hours. Now let's make sure exam day goes as smoothly as possible. The New Jersey real estate exam is administered by PSI at authorized testing centers. Following the right strategy on test day can make a meaningful difference.
What to Bring
PSI has strict identification requirements:
- Primary ID: Government-issued photo ID (driver's license, state ID, or passport) with your signature
- Secondary ID: Any ID with your name (credit card, debit card, or another government ID)
- Your name on both IDs must match your exam registration exactly
Do NOT bring: - Cell phone or smart watch (must be left in car or locker) - Calculators, notes, or study materials - Scratch paper (PSI provides it at the center)
Arrive 30 minutes early. Late arrivals are typically turned away and forfeit their exam fee.
Time Management on the Exam
The NJ exam gives you 3 hours for 110 questions — approximately 98 seconds per question.
Recommended approach:
- Work through all 110 questions at a steady pace — do not spend more than 2 minutes on any question on the first pass
- Flag any question you are unsure about
- After finishing all questions, return to flagged items
- Use process of elimination on hard questions — eliminate at least 2 clearly wrong choices before guessing
- Never leave a question blank — there is no penalty for guessing
State Section Strategy
The 30 NJ state questions come after the 80 national questions. Do not let fatigue affect your state section performance — this is where many candidates lose points.
