# North Dakota Real Estate Exam Day Tips

Passing the North Dakota real estate exam requires both knowledge and smart test-taking strategy. Here is what to know before you sit down at the PSI testing center.

Before You Arrive

Confirm your testing center location. PSI administers North Dakota exams at approved locations including Bismarck and Fargo. Verify the address when you schedule — do not rely on memory.

Arrive 30 minutes early. Late arrivals may be turned away and forfeit their exam fee. Account for parking and check-in procedures.

Bring two valid forms of ID. PSI requires a government-issued photo ID (driver's license or passport) plus a secondary ID. Both must show your name exactly as it appears on your registration.

Do not bring study materials. No notes, textbooks, phones, or electronic devices are allowed in the testing room. PSI provides lockers.

What to Expect at Check-In

PSI staff will photograph you, verify your ID, and check you for prohibited items. You will sign in electronically. The testing room is monitored by cameras and sometimes a proctor.

PSI provides an on-screen calculator — you do not need to bring your own. Scratch paper or an erasable notepad is typically provided.

During the Exam

Budget your time. You have 3.5 hours for 130 questions — roughly 1.6 minutes per question. Do not spend more than 2 minutes on any single question. Flag difficult questions and return to them.

Answer every question. There is no penalty for wrong answers. Never leave a question blank.

Read questions carefully. PSI questions often use qualifiers like "most likely," "best," "always," or "never." These words change the correct answer.

Trust your preparation. If you have completed 90 pre-license hours and studied for 40+ additional hours, you are more prepared than you feel. Anxiety often leads candidates to second-guess correct answers.

Tackle the state section confidently. The 50 North Dakota questions test content unique to this state. If you have studied NDREC rules, water rights, and agency disclosure, you are well-prepared.

After the Exam

Results are given on-screen immediately after you complete both sections. If you pass both, you will receive a score report. If you fail one or both sections, the report will identify which section and generally where you lost points.

If you pass: Take your score report to complete your NDREC application. Do not delay — your score may have an expiration window.

If you fail: Schedule your retake promptly. Use the score report to diagnose your weak areas and study specifically for those topics before your next attempt.
