Alabama's salesperson exam is administered by PSI. Here's what to expect.
What to Bring
- Two valid IDs (one government-issued photo ID)
- PSI confirmation number
- Nothing else — all items stored in a locker
The Exam
- 140 questions (100 national + 40 Alabama)
- 4 hours (~1:42 per question — comfortable)
- Passing score: 70% (98/140)
- Score reported immediately on screen
Use the flag function to mark uncertain questions and return during your second pass. Most candidates finish in 2-3 hours with time to review.
Score and Retaking
If you fail, the score report breaks down performance by content area. Study those areas before retaking. No mandatory waiting period — reschedule through PSI. Retake fee: $75.
Exam Strategy
Alabama state questions: AREC composition (9 members), Title 34/Chapter 27, trust account rules, disclosure requirements, 19-year-old minimum age (unique to Alabama).
National questions: Prioritize financing (TRID), fair housing (7 classes), and contracts (Statute of Frauds).
On uncertain questions: Choose answers that protect consumers and uphold professional licensing standards — AREC exam questions favor accountability.
