How to get an Alaska real estate salesperson license — 40-hour prelicense course, AREC application, exam, and the 20-hour postlicense requirement.
Here's the complete process to get your Alaska real estate salesperson license in 2025.
Eligibility
- At least 19 years old
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Good moral character; criminal history reviewed by AREC
Step 1: Complete 40 Hours of Prelicense Education
Complete 40 hours of AREC-approved prelicense coursework covering Alaska real estate law, principles, agency, and contracts.
Cost: $150-$350
Step 2: Apply to AREC / DCCED
Apply through the Alaska Professional Licensing system: - Application fee: $250 - Background check - Fingerprinting
Step 3: Pass the Exam
Schedule through PSI: - 120 questions (80 national + 40 Alaska) - 3 hours - 70% passing (84/120) - Exam fee: $75
Step 4: Complete 20 Hours of Postlicense Education
Within 6 months of receiving your initial license, complete 20 hours of AREC-approved postlicense education. Failure to complete means your license is not renewed.
Step 5: Activate with a Sponsoring Broker
Your license is inactive until you associate with a licensed Alaska broker.
Renewal
Every 2 years. 20 hours of continuing education per cycle.
