Maine Real Estate Exam Day Tips

You've completed 55 hours of pre-license education and weeks of practice exams. Exam day is when it counts. These tips help you walk into the PSI testing center in the best possible position to pass Maine's 120-question real estate salesperson exam.

Before Exam Day

Schedule smart. Take the exam within 1–2 weeks of finishing your pre-license course while the material is fresh. Don't let weeks go by between finishing your course and sitting for the exam.

Do a dry run. Drive to the PSI testing center beforehand so you know exactly where to park and how long it takes. Arriving late is stressful and can disqualify you.

Sleep matters. A full night of sleep before the exam is worth more than 2 more hours of last-minute cramming. Your ability to recall information drops significantly when you're sleep-deprived.

Re-read the question carefully. Many errors come from misreading what's actually being asked — especially when a question uses "EXCEPT" or "NOT."

Trust your first instinct on questions you've studied. Changing answers often leads to wrong answers.

The State Section

Maine's 40 state questions come after the 80 national questions (or you may have the option to take them in any order). The state section covers MREC rules, Maine agency law, Shoreland Zoning, and disclosure requirements. Don't rush through state questions — they require you to remember Maine-specific details, not just general principles.

After the Exam
