New Hampshire Real Estate Exam Day Tips
Get ready for exam day with practical tips on what to bring, how to manage your time, and how to approach tough questions on the New Hampshire PSI real estate exam.
New Hampshire Real Estate Exam Day Tips
You have studied the material. Now it is time to make sure exam day goes smoothly. The New Hampshire real estate exam is administered by PSI, and following the right strategy on test day can meaningfully improve your score.
What to Bring
PSI testing centers have strict identification requirements:
- Two forms of ID, with your primary ID being a government-issued photo ID (driver's license, passport, state ID)
- Your name on the ID must exactly match the name on your exam registration
- Do NOT bring calculators, phones, notes, or any study materials — they are not permitted in the testing room
- PSI provides scratch paper and pencils at the testing center
Arrive at least 30 minutes early. Late arrivals may be turned away and forfeit their exam fee.
Time Management Strategy
The NH exam gives you 3 hours for 120 questions. That is an average of 90 seconds per question.
Recommended approach:
- Move through the exam at a steady pace — do not spend more than 2 minutes on any single question on your first pass
- Flag questions you are unsure about and come back to them
- After finishing all 120 questions, return to flagged items
- If you truly do not know an answer, eliminate wrong choices first — eliminate at least two options, then make your best guess
- Never leave a question blank — there is no penalty for guessing
How to Handle Tricky Questions
The exam is written to test your ability to apply knowledge, not just recall facts. Watch for:
- "EXCEPT" and "NOT" questions — read carefully, these are asking for the wrong answer or the exception
- Scenario-based questions — the scenario often contains extra information to distract you; focus on what is actually being asked
- NH vs. national questions — on the state section, apply NH law; do not default to federal rules when NH has a stricter standard
The Night Before
- Do NOT cram the night before — your brain needs rest
- Review a short summary of NH-specific items: transfer tax ($0.75 per $100 each side), written buyer agency requirement, 9-member commission, OPLC oversight, 40-hour pre-license requirement
- Get at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep
- Eat a solid breakfast before the exam
After the Exam
PSI delivers your results immediately at the testing center. You will receive a pass/fail result and, if you fail, a diagnostic report by content area. If you pass, you can begin your license application with the OPLC immediately.
If you do not pass on your first attempt, do not be discouraged. Use the diagnostic report to target your weakest areas and schedule a retake.
