How Long to Study for the Alaska Real Estate Exam
Alaska's 40-hour prelicense course plus unique state content means you need focused preparation. Here's a realistic study timeline.
Alaska's 40-hour prelicense requirement is lower than most states. But Alaska-specific content (permafrost, ANC lands, federal land law) requires additional targeted study.
After the Course: How Much More?
No real estate background: 4-5 weeks, 1-2 hours/day Background in real estate or law: 2-3 weeks Licensed in another state: 2-3 weeks focused on Alaska-specific law
Week-by-Week Plan
Week 1: Alaska law — AREC under DCCED, AS 08.88, license types, the 40+20 hour education structure, 2-year renewal cycle, 20 CE hours per cycle.
Week 2: Alaska property topics — permafrost disclosure, federal/state/ANC land categories, subsistence rights, floodplain.
Week 3: Agency — written disclosure requirement, material fact disclosure obligation (regardless of representation), dual agency rules.
Week 4: National content — financing, valuation (cap rate), fair housing, contracts.
Week 5: Full timed practice exams (120 questions, 3 hours). Target 78%+ before scheduling.
